Teaching
Experience
Teaching assistant, New Economic School, Moscow (2018–2019)
Macroeconomics I and II, M.A. program. Weekly sections, problem sets and office hours.
Teaching assistant, Higher School of Economics, Moscow (2017)
Microeconomics I, B.A. program.
Prepared to teach
Microeconomics, political economy, development, economic history, industrial organization and applied econometrics, at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Courses I would like to build
The political economy of autocracy (undergraduate). What a state that cannot see what it taxes does, and what it costs, with the Soviet countryside of the 1930s and the autocracies of today as its cases.
Empirical work with archival data (graduate). How to build a dataset from primary records, the state's own surveys, farm accounts and registers, and how to read it through the rules that produced it.
How I teach
I build the argument with the students rather than presenting it finished, step by step and with the reason for each step said aloud. I assess continuously and at low stakes, so that I learn early who is falling behind and no single exam decides a grade. And I make room for every student: different activities and different channels, in class, in writing and in office hours, give students of different preparation a way to contribute.
